Abide With Me
SATB, Piano
Challenge Level: Easy for the choir, moderate for the piano
Sheet Music Sound File
This arrangement of Abide With Me showcases the accompanist a little more than some of my other arrangements. The accompaniment begins with some original melodic content set in a Baroque four-voice style. The hymn is sung in a choral style. The music goes back and forth between the piano and the choir until the final verse, where they are juxtaposed together.
To get a good understanding of what this piece is like, think of Bach's famous rendition of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring. It is comprised of two entirely different pieces that go back and forth from each other. My arrangement is a lot like that, except for the last verse where both fit together at the same time.
If you've got a good accompanist and not a lot of time, this arrangement can be impressive without the choir having to learn a lot of new notes.
