Good Christian Men Rejoice is a Christmas carol that may not be quite as well known as some. Its joyful, almost jocular nature makes it a lot of fun to perform and to hear. There is a lot of motion in the Alto, Tenor and Bass parts that adds to its challenge level.
The first verse is performed by all four choir parts in four part harmony. Verse two is performed by the women as they split into three part harmony. The tenors and basses begin the third verse in an augmented meter and in the minor, with sopranos and altos chiming in. The main message of that verse (and the whole song) is strongly emphasized: "Jesus Christ was born to save." Then the entire choir sings the first verse over again in a sharply contrasting piano dynamic before finishing on forte.
