Oh Come All Ye Faithful
SSA, Piano
Challenge Level: Challenging
Sheet Music Sound File
This arrangement is for women's voices in three-parts with piano accompaniment. I usually compose for a full choir so that everyone has a part to sing, but in this case I made an exception. My sister sings in a women's group and said that she was having trouble finding an arrangement of Oh Come All Ye Faithful, so I did this for her.
Oh Come All Ye Faithful is a joyful, familiar Christmas carol. Like most carols, there are many arrangements available (but apparently not for women's voices). I added some baroque elements to my arrangement as it seemed very Christmas-y to me. The first verse is pretty familiar, with a lot of passing tones and some suspensions added. The altos take the melody in the second verse with the first and second sopranos singing harmony in counterpoint, emphasizing the word "sing" by anticipating the downbeat. The final verse starts out in unison along with a lot of motion in the accompaniment. The phrase, "Oh come let us adore Him" phrase is repeated several times, metrically augmented over a dominant pedal tone in the accompaniment. The music builds until the end of the verse with the second sopranos and altos emphasizing the words "adore Him" over and over in counterpoint to the melody for a dramatic finish.
I am very pleased with how this one turned out. I hope you enjoy singing it as much as I enjoyed writing it. |
